In 1935 Hermès designed the leather Sac à dépêches. This was the bag that was later renamed in 1977 as the "Kelly bag" after the iconic actress Grace Kelly.
FUN FACT: Alfred Hitchcock has been credited with bringing the handbag into the limelight. In 1954, Hitchcock allowed the costume designer Edith Head to purchase Hermès accessories for the film To Catch a Thief, starring Grace Kelly.
Hermès goods are almost entirely made in France, by hand, with an emphasis on quality. The construction of each Kelly bag requires 18 to 25 hours to fully realize. Customers may currently wait from six months to one year for delivery of one of Hermès signature bags.
